![]() ![]() He was charming and provided great service. Our favorite person that we met on the trip was Luis the waiter there. We loved every moment of our our multiple visits to Portofino Restaurant. The staff and cooks there were great. We really enjoyed the bungalow style layout. The rooms were great aside from the very non-private bathroom stall. There were multiple times where someone went above and beyond what we expected. The good: The highlight of our trip was easily the friendly and hardworking staff of Secrets Papagayo. We found the downsides were greater, not enough to spoil anything, but wouldn't return to this particular resort ourselves. The nature of it being a smaller property has some upsides and downsides depending on your viewpoint. I don't think that we would return, unless they significantly updated the hotel. I think there were better hotels in the area. Overall, I don't think we had the best experience. We looked forward to breakfast every morning because we knew they couldn't screw that up too bad. It just didn't taste good.We tried all of the restaurants and didn't like the food at any of them. Food- the food and serving sizes left a lot to be desired. ![]() After we figured that out, we continued to ask for a double shot of liquor in all of our drinks. Drinks - The drinks were a little watered down. The linens, towels and window treatments were incredibly tattered. Room - The room was small and somewhat dirty. The service in the Italian restaurant was incredibly slow. CONS: Service- Room service missed the mark. The bottle of champagne was also a great choice. PROS: Location of room - secluded on a hill with a great view of the bay Decorations - the hotel really pulled out the stops to decorate our room to help us celebrate our anniversary. We stayed about 4 days after spending 4 days in the jungle. My husband and I visited Secrets for our wedding anniversary.
